BREAKING: Clyde Manager Danny Lennon Signs new Contract

Clyde manager, Danny Lennon has signed a new two-year contract at the League One club, on a deal until May 2024.

The deal comes just hours before today’s game against Alloa Athletic, where a win would bring the Bully Wee a step closer to securing a fourth consecutive season in Scotland’s third tier.

Lennon was appointed at the Cumbernauld club in November 2017, who were at the time, sitting eighth in League Two and in danger of relegation to the Lowland League via the play-offs.

An upturn in results, saw the Bully Wee climb up the table and finish the season in fifth position-three points below the promotion play-offs.

The year after, Lennon’s first full season, he led the club to promotion through the play-offs, ending their 10-year exile in the SPFL’s bottom division.

In the Bully Wee’s first season in League One, they finished in seventh position when it was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last year, under Lennon, the club finished eighth in the league, a season that was suspended for three months between January-March and was shortened to 22 matches due to the pandemic.

Currently, the club are sitting in seventh place on goal difference and with four games of this season to go, they still have the chance to finish in sixth or fifth place- which would be the club’s highest position in 13 and 17 years respectively.

The new contract highlights the faith that the Clyde board have put in Lennon to continue the progress seen at the club since his arrival four-and-a-half years ago.

The 53-year-old is also now set to reach a milestone of 200 games in charge of the Bully Wee next season, a record which has only been achieved by seven managers in the club’s history.

When speaking to Clyde’s official website on signing a new deal, Lennon said: “I am delighted to have signed up for another two seasons as manager of Clyde FC. I am excited to build on our journey of forward momentum together in my five seasons here, moving from bottom of the fourth tier to mid table in the third tier.

“There is still great potential for us to move forward as a club, amongst the stiff competition we face in League One. Our ambition in the next two years is to finish higher in the league each year and progress further in the cup competitions. With the board, the coaches, the players and the fans all pulling together as one, I believe we can achieve that goal.”

On retaining the services of Lennon as manager, Chairman, Gordon Thomson said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Danny has extended his contract with the club. The knowledge and experience that Danny brings to Clyde has been invaluable during his time at the helm. His is already one of the longest current tenures at any Scottish League club, and that stability has been crucial during unprecedented circumstances in the game.

“I, personally, have greatly appreciated working with Danny as we faced these challenges together and, as a board, we look forward to continue to work with him to build on the progress we’ve made.”
