Flowering Houseplants you Must Have this Spring

With Spring finally on our doorstep, this season of bloom is back in full force. While most of us still enjoy spending time indoors, flowering houseplants is the perfect way to bring more radiance and colour to our homes. Before purchasing any indoor flowers, it is a principle to purchase mature flowers, and not seeds (unless you have a lot of patience and years to wait for their bloom). It is also important to remember that many flowering house plants will last for years to come with minimum care, and others will only thrive for a few months. Here are some flowering houseplants I think will be great for you this Spring.

African Violet

African Violets are among the easiest houseplants to grow and take care of. This plant comes in shades of purple, pink and white blooms almost continuously. A basic rule in African Violet care is to treat them as if they are your child; do not neglect them, and provide all their necessities when needed. This plant thrives best in bright, indirect lighting preferably on a south, east or west, facing window ledge. Keep the soil lightly moist and do not let the water drip onto the fuzzy leaves because it will cause brown spotting. This plant has been known to last decades with the proper care.

Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a beautiful plant that can adapt well to the right indoor environment, as long as you provide them with well-drained soil and place them in a spot that has access to brightness! The secret to success is to water the soil enough that it keeps it evenly moist. Its large flowers only last a few days, but it stays in bloom from Spring to Autumn; meaning this is the prime time to purchase this plant. Colours can range from white, pink, red, blue, orange, peach, yellow or purple; if you are looking for flowers that will give vibrancy to your home this season, then this is the plant for you!

Phalaenopsis Orchid

These plants may look delicate at first glance, however, they’ll bloom for months and can last for years with minimum care. They thrive most in indirect light and warmth; Humidity for this plant is key. Don’t water it too much! We know that you will love this plant but don’t be an overbearing parent. When you are watering this flower, make sure to keep the crown dry and water once a week until it drains out the bottom of the pot. It comes in red-purple, purple, purple-violet, and violet-blue; this will add character to your home if they are treated with the right love and care!
