An enlarged version of the coveted ‘welcome’ mat from hit Scottish TV show ‘Still Game’ has been unveiled in Glasgow Central Train Station, attracting many commuters.
The carpet was unveiled this morning in the middle of Central Station as part of the “Made of Glasgow” campaign.
The BBC set up the mat to properly welcome people to Glasgow, with even Still Game stars, Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan, making a surprise appearance.
They invited anyone and everyone to walk the mat while recreating iconic scene from the series, including Jack and Victors iconic hats.
The staff also took pictures on a polaroid camera as keepsakes for those that took part while they were present.
Gillian Morrison, Head of Marketing for BBC Scotland, was on scene. She said: “The mat was rolled out as part of a celebration of homegrown story telling across the UK, with comedy rooted in Glasgow.
“Still Game is an iconic series, and it’s much loved by audiences here, so what we wanted to do is create a moment of the series and build the giant ‘welcome’ mat that happened in the series.
“We wanted to welcome people into Glasgow Central Station this morning to create a bit of fun and recreate iconic moments from the show”
Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan made an early appearance where they had a special group photo and met fans who had congregated around the mat.
The ‘Made of Glasgow’ campaign runs all through February and celebrates all forms of Scottish storytelling and how its shaped Scottish culture.
