The team behind The Malletsheugh in Newton Mearns brings their signature blend of Indian and Scottish cuisine to East Kilbride. The Osprey opened in East Kilbride on Wednesday 7th January located just on the edge of Calderglen Park.
But even before it opened there was some controversy around the fact that they felled trees in front of the restaurant causing an uproar with the local community and some saying they would boycott because of it. An investigation by Forestry Scotland has order them to replant the trees by 30th June.
The first thing you notice when you walk in is how modern it new looks, it now looks warm and inviting.
When we went it was a Wednesday at around four o'clock. It wasn’t very busy and got a table straight away even though we hadn’t booked before. Although especially a busier time it is recommended to book in advance.
The menu is a strange mix of Indian cuisine as well as pub grub and fish and chip. The waiters however are very friendly and attentive.

When we went, they were serving the pre-theatre menu which is £17.50 for a starter and a main course. I started with soup of the day which came with a buttered morning roll and then had steak pie which came with veg and either mash or chips and it was delicious the meat was tender and just fell apart in the gravy.
The portions were also quite big along with the service which felt slightly rushed and there wasn’t a lot of time in between courses to let your starter to go down before your main and you can leave feeling like you are in a food coma.
When we went, we stuck to the Scottish menu although we would like to go back to try out the Indian menu as people on other tables however did order from it and it all looked delicious and it is well worth dropping in if you are in the area.
