Glasgow by Candlelight: Candlelight Concerts in the city this week

By Iain McLean

Candlelight Concerts are taking over numerous iconic venues this year with a three-month stint in the city. Starting on January 9th, 2026, and ending May 29th.

They’ll hold classic tributes to artists such as Oasis, Taylor Swift, Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, Green Day, Pink Floyd and even a tribute to legendary composer, Hans Zimmer.

Other performances will be mashups in a “vs” series. These nights will be Coldplay vs Ed Sheeran and Queen vs Abba.

More impressively, they’ll juggle all these different performances from different venues in the city.

The orchestra will bounce between Merchants House, The Trades Hall and Glasgow Cathedral.

Candlelight Concerts has already performed in more than 100 cities around the world in front of three million attendees, all who give overwhelmingly positive reviews of the experience.

The reviews tout a “unique date experience” and “stunning venues and talented musicians.”

A review published on Trust Pilot by Peter Finegan said: “We saw the Christmas show in Roanoke, the music was wonderful, the venue was in a convenient location, and it was very comfortable, the candle light experience was like no other concert.”

Another review from Cathy Widmer praises the atmosphere saying it was “angelic, the lights from the candles added to the beautiful music that was played. The tribute to [Taylor] Swift was really good.”

However, some people have complained that the candles aren’t real and are mostly LED, set up around the performers.

The unique choice of tributes and the “vs” series alone is enough to pique anyone’s interest and it’s something that cannot be missed in its three-month stint.
