The most anticipated movies of Summer 2025

So far 2025 has been a great year for film, we’ve had Sinners, Final Destination, Thunderbolts and more. This summer is gearing up to be one of the best for new blockbusters, so, what do people want to see on the big screen? 

Ballerina 

This John Wick spin off is highly anticipated, with it being the fifth instalment in the franchise. The flick stars Ana De Armas as Eve, a ballerina with a thirst for revenge, and Keanu Reeves reprising his role of John Wick. After the death of her father, Eve seeks out the Ruska Roma in order to train as a traditional assassin. The feature is set after John Wick: Chapter 3, serving as a prequel to Chapter 4. The action-packed feature was previously delayed with an original release planned for last year but is now scheduled to release June 6th. 

How to Train your Dragon 

A new instalment in the How to Train Your dragon franchise, except this time it’s live action. The beloved series makes a return to the big screen this summer, featuring Paisley’s own Gerald Butler, along with a few more familiar faces. The story follows the plot of the first movie, a viking age island named Berk, home to a lifelong feud between dragons and the vikings; yet a young boy named Hiccup strikes up a unique friendship. How to Train your dragon is in cinemas on June 13th, a live for all ages.

Fantastic 4 

This year we have had our fair share of reboots, but nothing is more anticipated than Fantastic 4: FirstSteps. Marvel movies are always greeted with excitement, but many are eager to see how the star-studded cast portray these heroes. If you aren’t already familiar with this franchise, you should add the 2005 version, Fantastic 4 to your summer bucket list . the flick features Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bacharach starring as the supergroup. Fantastic 4 is set to hit cinemas on July 25th, during the peak of summer, guaranteeing to be a memorable one. 

Superman  

David Corenswet stars as the fourth Man of Steel in a highly anticipated adaptation of Superman, directed by superhero connoisseur James Gunn. The story centres around Clark Kent and his journey to reconnnecting with his Kryptonian roots. The movie features infamous villain Lex Luthor, played by screen veteran Nicholas Hoult, other characters featured include Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Metamorpho and Mister Terrific. Gunn states that the movie begins “right in the middle of action” setting the stage perfectly for action movie lovers. 

28 Years Later 

Arguably the most anticipated film of the year is 28 Years Later. Danny Boyle returns to direct the third instalment in this legendary series, which changed zombies forever back in 2004. The story follows a father and son who decide to leave their small, safe island community and face the dangers of mainland UK, still in control of the rage virus nearly 30 years on. The cast features Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Jack O’Connell and Cillian Murphy returning as a producer. The post-apocalyptic flick premiers on June 20th eagerly awaited by many.
