Following another high-profile error from Rangers No.1 Jack Butland in Saturday’s record-breaking fifth consecutive home defeat - this time against Hibernian - interim boss Barry Ferguson vowed there would be “a series of changes” for Rangers’ Europa League tie against Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.

At his pre-match press conference, Ferguson refused to confirm whether the former England international would retain his place in the starting XI or be dropped. When asked whether he had spoken directly with his goalkeeper, Ferguson gave little away.

He said: “I'm not going to say whether I've had a conversation with Jack or any other player”

He went on to state that he would not reveal any tactical details or team selections ahead of the crucial European clash.

“I'm not going to sit up here and tell you this is where I'm going to play, and this is the formation I'm going to play - I’d be crazy to do that.

“The decisions are going to be made tomorrow night, but what I will do is make a decision based on what I think is right for us to get a positive result.”

When pressed on whether he still stood by his post-match comments on Saturday, Ferguson suggested they were made in the heat of the moment following a frustrating performance from his side.

“I said that on Saturday - I was angry, I was frustrated, I was a mixture of emotions.”
