Last night marked Martin O’Neill’s final game as interim manager of Celtic with a 1-0 win over Dundee. After falling eight points behind Hearts in October following a 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers resigned after a second spell of seemingly endless success at the club, winning two league titles, a Scottish Cup and a League Cup. Martin O’Neil and Shaun Maloney had come in on an interim basis to steady the ship while the club searched for a replacement for Rodgers. We have compiled a list of O’Neill’s best moments since returning to the club he is considered a legend.

27.10.25 – Martin O’Neill backs Hearts to win the league.

The day after Celtic’s loss at Tynecastle, O’Neill was on Talksport’s morning show discussing the result and openly backed Hearts to win the title, saying that it would be fantastic for Scottish football if they were to do so. Ironically, just hours later, Brendan Rodgers resigned, and O’Neill took the job on an interim basis.

29.10.25 – Martin O’Neill’s name rings round paradise.

O’Neill’s side faced Falkirk in his first game in charge. For what felt like the full 90 minutes, the Celtic fans rallied behind him and were chanting his name. He described it as “the most surreal feeling in the world”. For the first time in two decades, he was back at Celtic Park and all the memories from the supporters came flooding back with every chant.

2.11.25 – Martin O’Neill derby winner once again.

The league cup semifinal had come around and was just O’Neill’s second game in charge. Celtic v Rangers. The biggest derby in the country, the biggest days of the season. Everyone glued to the screens or in the stands, nothing quite like it. Both managers names chanted from the stands, but both from the Celtic end as they put Rangers to the sword in extra time and sent them out of the cup. Goals from Johnny Kenny, Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand sealed an unforgettable victory for Martin O’Neill and the Hoops as they set up a final against St Mirren.

27.11.25 – Hoops run riot in Rotterdam.

Celtic travelled to Rotterdam to face Feyenoord where they dismantled the Dutch side 3-1, with many fans calling it their best away performance in Europe since O’Neill’s first spell in charge 20 years ago. Goals from Yang, Hatate and Nygren sealed another memorable victory for the Celts and an important three points in the Europa League.

3.12.25 – Martin O’Neill says goodbye again.

Last night marked O’Neill’s final game in charge as the celts beat Dundee 1-0. Again, his name rang round the stadium for almost the full game before he spoke to the fans, describing these 7 weeks as “the time of his life”. He brought together a struggling team and guided a seemingly sinking ship into seven wins from eight games and got the fans back on side amongst a period of detachment between both club and supporters. Martin O’Neill is a Celtic legend and will always go with the best wishes of every Celtic fan.
