Kloud: Glasgow’s Coolest New Coffee Shop?
By Niamh Cavanagh
Trendy coffee shops are nothing new to the streets of Glasgow, however Kloud Concept located in Merchant City has become extremely popular over the past few months. But why has it been attracting audiences from all over the world, and what does it over through other coffee shops in the city?
A mixture of the minimalist interior paired with atmospheric lighting has highlighted the coffee shop, making it stand out from others in the area. The sleek design gives the space a calming and welcoming atmosphere, creating a “cloud- like” feeling from the moment you enter the coffee shop.
They serve coffee, matcha, yogurt bowls and other delicious desserts, but that’s not the only attracting factor.
Thursday through Saturday from 6pm to midnight, Kloud switches their coffee mugs to martini glasses turning into a cocktail bar. The focus shifts to a menu of wines, craft beers, signature cocktails and small plates. The bar also features a live DJ, giving the public low- lit ambient house music to enjoy.
Kloud has received a high amount of promo from social media, especially on TikTok. Profits have boosted from its strong media presence, especially targeting towards a younger audience of people aged 18 to 30. Content creators all over Scotland and world-wide have been visiting the cafe/bar and sharing their thoughts on it on social media. This has given Kloud the clout that has drawn in the people.
By word of mouth, the views and reviews of Kloud were skyrocketing. The people wanted to see what the hype was all about, and let’s just say, they were not disappointed. Online reviews are very positive, with the coffee shop receiving 4.9 stars on Google reviews.
After visiting Kloud I can understand why so many people have been drawn to it. The place was slightly busy, but it did keep up to the expectations of providing good coffees and even better vibes.
The prices were as expected for being in the city centre of Glasgow, being up there with most other trendy coffee shops which was not surprising. The menu was as expected, providing typically coffee shop delicacies with a slight twist. For example, Spanish lattes and cookie dough croissant.
In comparison to other coffee shops in the area Kloud stands out from others. Although there are many more modern coffee shops in the heart of the city such as Brown Sugar Coffee & Records or Black Pine Coffee Co, Kloud stands out by its unique features.
The white and beige interior was refreshing to enjoy with an ice coffee; the yogurt bowls gave a good variety of choices to pick from, and the portion sizes were just right.
I believe that the only downfall would be that the menu in the shop and online isn’t particularly accessible. Although it provides their main drinks and items that they sell, it does not show their range of different milks, syrups or iced variations. I am yet to try out the bar at nighttime, however, I can say that I am excited to visit again for cocktails instead of coffees this time.
If you are looking for a visually striking coffee shop/ stylish bar, Kloud is perfect for you. The place is ideal for meet ups with friends, study dates or cocktails in the evening.
