This weekend Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers take on each other in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final. The two will clash at Hampden Park on Sunday at 2pm in the second match of the semi-finals.

Reigning champions Celtic come into this match-up with only one game under their belt with interim manager Martin O’Neill. However, Rangers are in a similar situation, having only played three matches with new manager Danny Rohl.

Currently, sitting second and third in the league, both teams have something to prove coming into this game – neither team can lose. Last year Celtic beat Rangers after a close fight, winning 5-4 on penalties after drawing three all after extra time.

Rangers were the first of the two to book their ticket to Hampden. Despite troubles in the league under manager Russell Martin, the Gers came out on top against Hibs in a 2-0 win. Nicolas Raskin scored the opening goal, followed by Bojan Miovski, who scored his first goal for Rangers.

Celtic bagged their way into the semi-finals late last month against Partick Thistle in Firhill. A confident 4-0 victory with goals from Yang, Scales, Tounekti and McCowan lead the Hoops on their journey to Hampden.

Celtic go into this fixture a little bit into the unknown after Manager Brendan Rodgers left after a 3-1 defeat to Hearts over the weekend. Martin O’Neill was appointed interim manager for the upcoming fixtures and defeated Falkirk in a confident 4-0 victory.

Some fans questioned O’Neill’s style of play as it had been nearly 20 years since he last managed Celtic. However, an impressive performance at Celtic Park cleared many doubts from fans.

Newly appointed Rangers manager Danny Rohl brought the Gers to their first back-to-back league wins this season. After a terrible start to the season under Russell Martin, things look to be changing in Govan.

The last time the pair met was on 31 August at Ibrox and ended in a 0-0 draw. The last five Old Firm derbies previously have all had at least three goals in them, so it was a shock to see such a dull scoreline in a match.

Defender Dujon Sterling is still missing from the Rangers squad with an Achilles injury and midfielder Connor Barron is suspended for the match, which will be a big blow for Rangers.

However, Celtic are in a much more critical situation, missing centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers due to injury. As well as Alistair Johnston and Kelechi Iheanacho also due to injury. Left-back Kieran Tierney also remains a mystery after missing from Wednesday night’s squad.

The tide seems to be changing for both Glasgow sides. But the question is who will come out victorious as there can only be one winner heading to the final in December.
