2026 is shaping up to be a blockbuster year in gaming. Several hugely anticipated games are aiming to release this year.
Here are six titles that you should be looking forward to this year:
Marvel’s Wolverine

Gaining immediate hype back when it was announced in September of 2021, Marvel’s Wolverine has been on the minds of many gamers for a while. There were no updates, no gameplay, not a single clue of what this game would end up looking like. For four straight years, nothing. Finally, in September of 2025, during PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast, we got our first look at Marvel’s Wolverine.
Developed by Insomniac Games, the same minds behind Marvel’s Spider-Man, fans should expect the same amount of love to be put into this title.
This game looks to feature some fan favourite characters from the X-Men franchise, including Mystique, Omega Red, and The Sentinels.
Marvel’s Wolverine is expected to release in Autumn 2026 for the PS5.
Resident Evil: Requiem

The ninth entry in the mainline Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Requiem looks to bring the series back to its roots, back to Raccoon City. With a brand-new protagonist in Grace Ashcroft, an FBI detective investigating mysterious deaths in the city. She isn’t alone, however, as fan favourite character, Leon Kennedy, will return to the franchise for the first time since Resident Evil 6 (discounting remakes). An aspect returning to the mainline franchise is the third person camera. This had also been missing from the mainline games since Resident Evil 6.
Requiem looks to be a return to the classic Resident Evil people know and love. From fan favourite characters and locations returning, to gameplay features from the past.
Resident Evil: Requiem releases February 27th, 2026 for the PS5, PC, XBOX Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch 2
007 First Light

From IO Interactive, the developers of the critically acclaimed Hitman series, comes 007 First Light. This game looks to tell an original origin story set in the James Bond universe, inspired by the Ian Fleming novels, along with the films.
The game is described as a thrilling espionage action-adventure game. Much like the Hitman series, there will be multiple ways to tackle each mission that Bond goes on. This includes multiple ways to enter and exit levels. The open sandbox design of the missions also takes inspiration from the Hitman franchise.
If you are a fan of the Hitman games, there is a strong chance that this will be right up your alley. 007 First Light releases May 27th, 2026 for the PS5, PC, XBOX Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch 2
Fable

This classic RPG series will get a revival this year. This marks the first game in the series since Fable: The Journey in 2012. This new entry is developed by Playground Games, best known for the Forza series.
Fable has sold itself big, claiming to feature over 1,000 truly unique NPCs with their own daily routines and names, that every house in the game can be entered, that gameplay is extended beyond the usual questing that you’d do in a typical RPG like this. You can build your own houses, form relationships and marry other NPCs. Every action matters in this game.
Fable releases in Autumn 2026 for PS5, PC, XBOX Series S/X.
Control: Resonant

The sequel to 2019’s Control was unveiled at the 2025’s The Game Awards. Developed by Remedy Entertainment. This game changes perspectives to a brand new protagonist, Dylan Faden, the brother of the first game’s protagonist, Jesse. He is tasked with saving humanity from a reality bending threat.
In a change from the first game, this game focuses on the RPG elements rather than the gunplay focus of the original. The scope is also bigger, rather than staying put in one building, the series moves to the New York borough of Manhattan, expanding the playable area. Dylan will use a weapon known as The Aberrant, a metal bar that is able to shapeshift into various different weapons
Control: Resonant will release in 2026 for the PS5, PC, XBOX Series S/X, and macOS.
Grand Theft Auto VI

Without a doubt the most anticipated game of the year, and perhaps the decade, is GTA VI. After many delays, the long awaited sixth entry may finally be hitting shelves this year. In a return to Vice City, the game will follow protagonists Jason and Lucia as they navigate the streets of the state of Leonida. Lucia is also the first ever non-optional female lead character the series has ever had.
GTA VI is expected to have interaction and environmental detail that no one has ever seen in an open world game, with multiple different environments, such as a tropical area, wetlands, mountains, and worn down industrial areas. Marketing for the title is expected to begin this summer, and reports suggest that they are still on target for a 2026 release. GTA VI looks to continue the series’ long honoured tradition of poking fun at aspects of modern day society also, with social media taking focus in one of its trailers.
GTA VI will (hopefully) release November 19, 2026, for PS5 and XBOX Series S/X.
