Student volunteer day at City Campus

“A fantastic opportunity for community partners to connect with students, support their volunteering journeys and showcase the diverse pathways and opportunities available.”

City of Glasgow College is currently hosting events advertising volunteering opportunities for students.

These events allow students to network with organisations seeking volunteers and allow them to register their interest.

Organiser of the event and Volunteer Ambassador, Adam Ali, said “This one has been planned since November and is very much a collaborative team effort within the students’ association.”

Students are given flyers and information about what volunteers should expect, and a chance to have a one-on-one chat with some of the organisations that are there to promote the work they do.

Some of the companies in attendance were Cats Protection, NSPCC Childline, Wisemen mentoring, Volunteer Tutors.Org, and Include Me2, an outreach charity whose ethos is “everyone deserves to belong”.

Their volunteers are in place to provide additional training and opportunities to young people from underprivileged backgrounds to gain access to support and learn new skills in media that would not usually be open to them because of their demographic.

Volunteering is a great way for students to gain experience in their chosen field, give back to their community and learn new skills.

Occasionally, paid positions within the organisation where the student is volunteering are advertised, and in that instance, having already gained experience within the company, volunteers are more likely to be recruited for such roles.

All the organisations mentioned above rely on their volunteers to continue to function, so if you can spare some time and expertise, information can be found on their websites.

If you missed the event, it will be held again on 18th February in the Riverside Campus.

To arrange a volunteering opportunity outside the networking events, please visit the volunteering hub on City Campus for further information.
