Overpass at SWG3 - Zak McGrath

Rock band Overpass took the stage at a sold out SWG3 venue in Glasgow last night. The Birmingham band played their fourth gig in the city following their album release "Elsewhere, Always", on the back of previous performances at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in 2024 and the poetry club January 2026.

Having gained major attraction across the past year in the indie scene and a fantastic run of appearances at UK festivals during the summer, performing at the likes of Leeds and Reading, Isle of Wight, TRNSMT alongside other European festivals. It was no doubt they had to upgrade in venues across the UK.

This was my first time witnessing a full setlist from the band, having been at Leeds and TRNSMT months before, I was impressed with how they performed and looked forward to how a more intimate gig would feel.

Once the band took stage, there was a real sense of excitement among the crowd.  It was a great response to the bands arrival and set the tone for the rest of the gig.  The band opened with "Union Station", A track containing both energised and catchy guitar riffs with fantastic vocals from lead singer Max Newbold.  A fantastic opener for the show.

The band continued a great performance for the next hour; I found it difficult to pick a standout song but judging by the crowd, the songs that had the biggest reception were undoubtedly "3AM" and "Is this real?".

Overall, I was certainly impressed with Overpass last night, I thought the band performed at their best, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching an hour-long set.

As the rise in bands progress in the UK indie scene, I think Overpass have the potential to rise in popularity. With the group already upgrading to the Barrowland Ballroom in April.

There is no telling the heights they can reach in years to come. I could completely see the band performing on bigger stages in the future, whether that be longer sets at festivals or playing at bigger capacities such as the O2 Academy or OVO Hydro.
