Arctic Monkeys’ new collaboration song Opening Night was released last week, preceding the launch of the album HELP2, produced by War Child records. All proceeds made from the record will go to children affected by war.

The album will be released in March 2026 and will feature songs by various popular artists, such as Fontaines D.C, The Last Dinner Party and Depeche Mode.

It is inspired by the 1995 record HELP which featured Oasis, The Stone Roses and Radiohead who helped to give important aid to children suffering during conflict.

Their new song leans into their rebrand, prioritizing a slower tempo rather than indie rock. During their live concerts in the previous years, they played their hit songs in a slower tempo, shocking fans who tried to sing along at the regular speed.

Opening Night is the band's first new record since 2022, when they released their studio album The Car. This album is sung in a similar, slower tempo, with piano being a key accompaniment in most of the songs.

This shows the not-so-subtle changes Alex Turner has made to the style of their records.

Opening Night starts with a 20 second atmospheric introduction which features delicate guitar and drums. It follows an electronic beat, which is repeated throughout the song.

The lyrics are moody and reflective. “A set of cherry red and white loaded dice” may allude to the fact that this brand change isn’t permanent.

The track explores themes of anticipation, uncertainty, and the allure of new beginnings.

The song includes falsetto vocal harmonies which pair perfectly with the sullen lyrics.

Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino was released in 2018, and this album shares similarities to their new release.

I enjoyed the song and have been listening to it on repeat since it was released. It has taken me a while to adapt to the band's new rhythm, but as a long-standing fan I have grown fond of their new sound. This might also be the case for other fans.
