Is Winter Wonderland Student Friendly?
Glasgow’s brand new Christmas markets are now open

Winter Wonderland has finally come to Glasgow. After years of experiencing FOMO every time we see a TikTok showcasing the London markets, our city has built its own in Glasgow Green!
The fair is running from November 21, 2025, to January 4, 2026, giving people plenty of time to visit. It is said to include a lot of things to look forward to, including the classics that we will unfortunately not get to see in its original spot at the George Square Christmas markets.
You can look forward to an ice rink, some festive attractions, various entertainments such as Santa’s Grotto, live theatre performances, food and drink stalls and more.
The Ice Rink is often a popular attraction for Christmas Markets
Although it sounds like a blast, Christmas markets and wonderlands tend to have a stigma around them, regarding pricing and whether it is fair.
The entry is free at this event however everything else does have a price. For example, the fan favourite ice rink is £13.50 to £15.50 for ages 16+ on the day for around a 45-minute session.
Many students collectively agree that the pricing of Christmas markets is out of order.
Pricing stops a huge number of people from being able to have fun during the Festive period
Jeffrey, a student at City of Glasgow College, said: “Every year the prices are getting higher, its daylight robbery.”
Multiple other students agree.
Adam, said: “it’s expensive.”
Aimee also said: “No, they’re absolutely not, [student friendly] it’s an extortion just to go.”
So, is it really worth it? Although the prices are something most students disagree on, majority still intend to go at some point. However, Aimee, said: “I’d rather go to the Edinburgh markets.”
The pricing for Winter Wonderland is generally not student friendly; however, it is still something most people would like to experience and enjoy someday, personally, I think the experience alone would make it worth it especially with the right company.
