On Wednesday night, producer Nigel Godrich revived his music performance series From the Basement after nearly three years with a performance from New York band Geese.

From the Basement is a YouTube series presenting artists through intimate live performances. It first ran from 2006 to 2009, featuring major acts like Radiohead and The White Stripes. A brief 2011–12 revival followed before the series returned again in 2022.

The last performance on the channel was in December of 2022, hosting a live set from Nilüfer Yanya who just opened for Lorde at the OVO Hydro.

Following the release of their third album Getting Killed, Geese are the internet darlings of 2025. They are a shining light in the alternative/indie rock scene, helping lead a new revival of the sub-genre this decade.

The blow-up of the band followed the release of frontman Cameron Winter’s fantastic solo album Heavy Metal, an indie singer-songwriter album with songwriting akin to that of Dylan and Cohen.

Their set on the series is a 35-minute sprint containing tracks only from the new album, including the hectic Trinidad and a passionate performance of the fan-favourite Au Pays du Cocaine.

The performance coincides with an excellent capitalisation of the pre-release hype, with the band doing numerous live performances and announcing a world tour for 2026.

With From the Basement now returning alongside one of the year’s most talked-about bands, the series feels poised for another era. And if this performance is any indication, both Geese and the show itself have plenty of momentum heading into what comes next.
