Bring me the horizon January 14th gig review

by Gary Downie

On January the 14th, Bring Me The Horizon played their Glasgow show as part of the current “NXT_GN WRLD TOUR”, to promote their delayed album “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn” which was supposed to be released in September of last year but now will not be released until summer of this year. The Show was filled with pyrotechnics, lasers, and cinematic storytelling to create a standout show to help tease the upcoming album.

The concert featured a narrative, something that seems to be part of the new direction Bring Me The Horizon is now taking with their shows, that focuses on an A.I called E.V.E, the church of Genxsis and what the next step in human evolution. This adds an engaging element to the shows, bringing in dancers and visuals that are simply majestic and atmospheric, featuring church themed stages, storms in the background and even a creepy Frankenstein style angel creature, breaking the church and getting the crowd to create circle pits. The interactions between E.V.E with some of the cult members, Oli and even crowd are funny and a great way to keep the crowd hyped and entertained during each song.

The show featured a setlist of the band's singles such as “DArkSide” and “AmEN”, their latest single “Kool-Aid” but also a rotation of songs from some of the band's earlier songs, the Glasgow performance got “Diamonds Aren’t Forever”. The set featured slightly distorted and heavier versions of some of the normal setlist songs like “Shadow Moses” and “Mantra”, with Oli’s voice sounding healthier and greater than ever, adding new and powerful growls and fry screams to the songs throughout the whole performance. The set also included the song “Antivist”, which features the Bad Omens front man Noah Sebastian, who came up on stage to sing with Oli as they had opened for the band on this tour. The band continued their tradition of one acoustic version of a song, this time it being “sTraNgeRs” which creates a beautiful atmosphere in the hydro when they get the crowd to sing and light the place up with their phone torches.

During the show, we were treated to some teasers of songs from their next album and even recorded some of the crowd shouting to use in one of the yet to be named songs. These little teasers have shown the band is going back to their roots and creating some heavy music. All we fans can do now is wait in excitement for that new album now.
