Film Review: 'TÁR'- The film that heightens the bar set low in recent years

In this psychological drama directed by Todd Field, Cate Blanchett plays professional conductor and musician, Lydia Tár, whose highly successful career deteriorates after allegations of sexual misconduct appear in a viral video and her other alleged victim commits suicide.

Tár is another film to come out of 2022 that heightens the bar set low in recent years and shows a new side to the genre of classical music.

It challenges the act of separating the art from the artists, even involving musicians like Bach in that notion, as Lydia Tár is considered one of the greatest living composers and is the first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.

Despite her talent, the allegations she faces align with her character as the audience sees her shady actions throughout the film.

Overall, the film seeks the audience’s undivided attention but doesn’t give too much away. Through the sophistication of the settings, the film gives off a calm and collected aura while the drama of Lydia’s life contrasts.

★★★★- This film is highly recommended to see if you have a chance.
