Over 40 brands removed animals and wildlife from their logos across social media channels on 3 March to raise awareness for World Wildlife Day. The #WorldWithoutNature campaign hopes to raise awareness of the decline of biodiversity and to highlight the importance of the natural world and what the world would look like without it.

A statement on the WWF UK website said: “World Wildlife Day should be a chance to celebrate life on our amazing planet. But our wildlife is disappearing. Fast. Our Living Planet Report shows wildlife population sizes have plummeted by an average of 68% since 1970.

Populations of birds, mammals, fish, plants and insects across the world are teetering on the brink. The natural world is in free-fall. A world without nature is a world that’s incomplete, just like our logo on World Wildlife Day. “

Biodiversity worldwide is vulnerable due to the climate crises. Earlier this week the sixth IPCC assessment report was published warning that urgent action is needed to tackle climate change.

In a press release, Hoesung Lee, Chair of the IPCC, said:  “This report is a dire warning about the consequences of inaction. It shows that climate change is a grave and mounting threat to our well-being and a healthy planet. Our actions today will shape how people adapt and nature responds to increasing climate risks.
