Five Glasgow Spots to try This Veganuary

After overindulging over the festive period, many try to get back into good habits or start new ones throughout January. Many do this by doing a thirty-one-day challenge, either practising yoga, going alcohol-free or adopting a vegan diet.

Glasgow was recently voted the 4th best city in the UK for vegans by Student Beans. Over 500 restaurants in the city are labelled as vegan-friendly and 50 restaurants deliver vegan food on Uber Eats. Whether you are doing the Veganuary challenge, are a vegan or just looking to try something different here are some places to try:

Puti Vegan Cafe

Voted the best vegan restaurant in Glasgow, Puti serves a variety of Asian dishes with mock meats and tofu. You can find items on the menu which are often difficult to find veganized such as fried rice and prawn toast. Dine in or enjoy at home.

The 13th Note

The 13th Note has been a popular restaurant, bar and music venue for years, turning fully vegan in 2020. Try the “best chips in Glasgow” seasoned with Rosemary, Cajun-spiced or cheese to season. If you like Bloody Mary’s the 13th Notes has been called the best in Scotland.

Rose and Grants

The Trongate café offers several breakfast and lunch options that are vegan, including Macaroni and Scotch pies, French toast and a selection of cakes. Be sure to try the vegan square sausage. The café is currently serving Veganuary specials including a jackfruit “Tuna” mayo sandwich and plant-based eggs with a runny yolk.

The Glasvegan

Situated in St Enoch Square serving vegan fast food including milkshakes, hot dogs, burgers and savoury crepes. The Glasvegan is a part of the new independent vegan takeaway delivery service called Vegan Wheels operating throughout the city.

Swadish

The Merchant City’s modern Indian cuisine restaurant has a full separate vegan menu including a tofu korma, Sweet potato Chaat and Beetroot Poori. Swadish also serves hard to come by vegan Peshwari Naan. Dine-in or order to takeaway.
